Hello, I’m Rachelle!
I’m a sickle cell disease and chronic illness awareness advocate with a passion for storytelling. I started blogging as a creative outlet to raise awareness about sickle cell disease and explore storytelling as a tool for advocacy and connection.
Why I started blogging
College life with a chronic illness wasn’t what I expected it to be. Especially in my last year, when I faced severe stigmatization, ableism, and discrimination.
That situation was very harmful to my health and triggered severe pain crises. Which had lasting effects on my health. Fortunately, I was able to graduate but wasn’t happy as I had a long recovery ahead of me.
During my recovery, I turned to a passion of mine: storytelling! It has been important to me since childhood, as it helped me explore and navigate the world even during bad health days. Which was comforting!
And it was my form of escapism during my recovery. I watched so many movies, started reading again, and spent many hours gaming. But after a while, I wanted to work through my emotions about that horrible situation in college.
So I journaled a lot! And while working through my emotions, I realized that I wanted to start advocating for sickle cell and chronic illness awareness! Which I chose to do through blogging because of my passion for storytelling.
I wanted to create a safe space where people with sickle cell can talk about navigating life. Because experiencing life with a chronic illness or disability can be overwhelming, isolating, and confusing!
I also write about intentional living as a chronically ill person. Which I discovered during my recovery. Intentional living is essentially making mindful choices that reflect your values and beliefs.
And as a person with a chronic illness, it helps create a life that supports my well-being.
I am no expert, but I enjoy sharing how I navigate intentional living as a chronically ill person.
Join me on this journey!
Whether you’re here to find comfort or information about sickle cell disease, I hope to provide a safe space where you feel supported, seen, and heard.
I’m happy to see you here! 😉
